Why should you share your story?

Donors help amazing things happen across our campuses and beyond — but the most important thing they do is support incredible people and programs. While donors don’t ask for anything in return and don’t choose who benefits, they love hearing about your successes.

What you choose to share is up to you. It could be why you chose the UW, what the award means to you, or other meaningful aspects of your UW experience. Sharing your story not only highlights your impressive accomplishments, it also helps build connections with the larger community of donors, alumni, educators, and peers.

“This scholarship carries immense significance for me, primarily because it symbolizes stability. Emerging from a low-income background, financial stability was a privilege I seldom experienced. This newfound stability has enabled me to take on multiple research positions, pursue graduate school, and actively engage in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives."

“It is mind-boggling to see how many students have been helped.... I wish I could tell the students THANK YOU for taking the time to tell us what you have been up to and how the money was used.”

— James P.

"One of the truly remarkable aspects of a UW education is the ability for students to learn from faculty at the top of their field. For many, the experience in the classroom leads to other opportunities like joining a research group and working on solutions to problems that affect the world. Scholarships—and our donors— are key to making such life-changing opportunities available for so many that might not be able to attend without this help."

Our stewardship philosophy

At the UW, we recognize that donors' generosity touches many lives across our campuses, from students to faculty, coaches to researchers. In our mission to connect donors with real-world impact of their support, we invite all those who have benefited from philanthropy to share the difference it has made in their lives in ways that are safe, comfortable and genuine.

The UW is committed to fostering a philanthropic environment that is open, fair, and respects the personal boundaries of each individual. Just as a donor providing a gift is voluntary, so is your participation. Your decision to share information does not influence one's current benefits or future opportunities for support.

Frequently asked questions

What is stewardship?

Stewardship means managing donations as donors intended and keeping them informed about how their gifts are making a difference.

What will you do with my story?

Your story will be available on My UW Giving, a secure site where people connected to the fund you benefited from, can see the impact of their donations through the stories you, and others, choose to share.

Can I submit a video or examples of my work?

Yes, we welcome video submissions, photos, or you can upload a project you are proud of. Please ensure your files are in a commonly used format and do not exceed 10 minutes in length.

Who will see my story?

Only people directly associated with the specific gift or fund, like donors or honorees, can see your story on their secure My UW Giving account. Your story could also be shared with other prospective donors, but only if you grant the University permission to do so.

Do you share anything else about me?

We strictly follow the Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) as it relates to sharing information about students.
